Can regular diesel be mixed with vegetable oil?

Yes, normal mineral diesel can be readily mixed with vegetable oil in the vegetable oil tank on a two tank converted vehicle. The start up diesel tank must only ever contain diesel or vehicle manufacturer approved biodiesel. An engine must still start up and finish operation on diesel/biodiesel - even if you have a 2 tank conversion system. This is because modern diesel fuel is actually a based diesel oil plus a complex mix of additives, some of which are detergents designed to clean and prevent fouling of precision fuel injector tips. Pure vegetable oils do not contain these essential additives and hence should only be used in a diesel engine when appropriate in-cylinder conditions have been safely reached.

If for whatever reason you cannot find a source of suitable quality vegetable oil, diesel can simply be mixed into your vegetable oil tank, in any percentage, until you secure appropriate supplies of vegetable oil.
