How do I filter used oil at home?

We general advise against using home processed used cooking oil (UCO) due to the highly variable quality of the end product (acidity, water content, levels of hydrogenation etc). If you are determined to burn UCO, we only advise using home filtered oil in older, non-common rail engines. Invariably these are indirect injection engines found in older vehicles, where tolerances are less critical than modern high pressure systems. Regulating acidity levels in used oil is hardest thing to get right in a home set up. Commercially, this is done by using a bentonite filter element, commonly known as 'Fullers Earth' in the UK. You can find out more at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bentonite#Calcium_bentonite).
