I`ve heard that Lucas/CAV pumps will fail on veg oil. Is this true?

The Lucas pump design has indeed shown itself to be less tolerant of vegetable oil operation than (say) the equivalent Bosch design. However, in our own tests we believe this is due to the thermal characteristics of the pump's internal structure. Put simply, it takes longer than expected for the pump to thermally stabilise. Once this has occurred, suitably warmed veg oil can be introduced. At the end of a journey it's crucial that all veg oil is flushed from the pump. The smartveg design ensures that a pump has thermally stabilised and correctly flushed- every time. You'll find warnings on the web that a Lucas/CAV design won't last more than a few hundred miles.
