Oil Passes $100 Barrel

The UK motorist looks set to be in for yet another price hike as light sweet crude for delivery in February rose $4.02 to trade at $100 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex). With diesel already well past £1 a litre, the recent price of crude comes as yet more bad news to the long suffering UK motorist.

Violence in Nigeria and Algeria, the weak dollar and cold weather have all been linked to the rise in prices after the New Year break. The assassination of the former Pakistani prime minister, Benazir Bhuto, also contributed to the rising prices, along with rising strong demand from China and India.
